OVERVIEW: Mi Terro is focused on both net zero waste and carbon. Its mission is to replace petroleum-based materials with protein-based materials made from food waste, and that are non toxic, skin-friendly, allergen-free, and antimicrobial. It is the world's only biotechnology company that rescues food waste from industrial facilities and uses it as a feedstock to create food protein and ultimately sustainable fibers that can replace plastic. Mi Terro’s patent-pending technology effectively transforms "bad" casein protein from excess milk into "good" casein protein and upcycles it into soft, sustainable, and affordable fibers that can be applied to apparel, medical appliances, bed linens, and packaging films. In fact, the company has created the world's first apparel line made from excess milk. Mi Tierro is also developing a packaging film made from whey and, in the NZA 2020 cohort, is now exploring the development of green building materials for potential use in insulation, carpeting, and upholstery.
