OVERVIEW: Carbon Built envisions a world in which the CO2 emissions from cement production (nearly 9% of today’s global carbon emissions) are eliminated, and where concrete permanently sequesters CO2 from energy and other industry sectors. They are achieving this goal by developing a technology to cost-effectively transform CO2 emitted by power plants into prefabricated concrete products. The company’s technology is unique because it uses flue gases directly (with no energy-intensive carbon capture step, pressurization, high heating), and has the most efficient and scalable reactants. They are currently scaling up the technology in a first of a kind field demonstration as a Finalist in the Carbon XPRIZE and will commercialize the technology via an asset-light model where they offer producers complete packages containing the system design, processing, and environmental reporting know-how needed to manufacture Carbon Built products
